This underscores an important point. Mars advocates keeping stressing
how Mars can become materially independent of Earth. And of course they
stress this because they HAVE to. But the successful societies we've
seen are not the ones that achieve complete and total independence from
all other societies. They're the ones who need things from other
societies, but have valued things they can sell to other societies to
pay for it. It's what makes our global civilization go.
