Electricity requirements for Mars Base Zero

If you plan to support a person using artificial lights and Closed
ecological life support systems technology you'll need on the order of
50 kilowatts per person, not including cooling, which may add another
40-50 kilowatts...of course the idea would be to use sunlight, but
that will still leave your cooling needs...

Here in Mars Base Zero we have 40 x 1,000 watt lights for winter use.
When they are all plugged in (which we've never done, I might add:
we've never operated all winter--though we hope to next winter) they
will consume almost 30 megawatt hours of power per month
(24*40,000*30)...a real budget buster!
