A week or two back someone mentiond the interesting idea of using
fibre optics to provide light to a Stanford Torus. If I remember
rightly they suggested putting an agricultural area above that on the
inner circumference of the habitat.

Anyway I was just studying a picture of two O'Neill cylinders and it
hit me, could we not do away with the windows, double the land area
and increase radiation and metiorite protection at the same time.
Could we put an array of solar collectors at the opposit end to the
agricultural cylinders and pipe sunlight into the habitat along a
light bridge running the length of the habitat in the zero gravity
zone. If you didn't want to double the land area you could halve the
size of the habitat and save on construction costs. Inside the
cylinder would still be far better than the inside of the Torus, you'd
have miles of open sky above you.

Any thoughts?
