Anyway I was just studying a picture of two O'Neill cylinders and it
hit me, could we not do away with the windows ... and pipe sunlight into the
habitat along a light bridge running the length of the habitat in the zero
gravity zone.

Makes sense to me. I believe the main reason for the windows was to create a
more `natural-looking sky', with a sun that appeared to rise and set. I can
appreciate the aesthetics, but all the extra usable surface area sounds
better to me.
