I think the Ringworld conceptualized by Larry Niven ("Ringworld," "The
Ringworld Engineers," "The Ringworld Throne") is a better idea for a
permanent place to live. The Ringworld is a modification of the Dyson
Sphere idea which doesn't require gravity generators, intercepts a
moderate amount of its central sun's energy, and provides a HUGE
amount of living surface.
