Hi friends,

Just some comments. In a friendly manner, of course :)

I think the space settlements will work as small
towns. They will never have more than, let's say,
100.000 people each, and the average will be about
20.000 people. So, to develop a large civilization in
space there will have to be thousands of these small
towns.
If goes that way, and if something wrong happens, like
a terrorist attack, there will be just one or a couple
of "towns" affected but not the whole thing.

Second, I don't like very much the idea of SPS.
Beamming power from space to Earth could have some
side effects we perhaps do not foresee. What would
happens if an unknown chemical reaction get started
with that large amount of power falling down.
Imposible? Maybe not. The size effects of DDT and
freon where discovered AFTER they where mass produced.

And if not, what will happens if a plane cross the
beam?, or if a migrating ducks do so? That's scares
me. Perhaps fusion is the way to go.

Regards,

Omar Vega
