Yeah, one has to remember the era. Back when "L5" was made, everybody
was all agog about VR. There were movies, there was a (short-lived) TV
show. The Hollywood fad died before the technology could even mature
sufficiently enough to enter daily life.

Yes, he wrote that in 1980 (though I think it might not have gotten
published until 1982), and TNG started in 1987.

Oh, I've got the "L-5's White Christmas" holiday special all worked out,
from the theme song (equal parts "Also Sprach Zarathustra" and "I'm
Dreaming of a White Christmas"), to the opening montage, to the
well-intentioned-but-horribly-misguided idea of having a sleigh with
real reindeer pulled across the 0-G axis.
