I think thats the result nearly everyone who has studied this
(except O'Neill et al) got to, for the reasons you list.....I recall
looking at O'Neill's stuff and thinking about rotational stresses in
the cylinder, and wanting to at least put a parabolic curve on it
and rounded ends.
