Precession simplified:

A. 1. Take a toy gyroscope:
2. Hold it in front of you so that the rim appears as a circle.
3. Spin it clockwise.
4. Pretend that you are the sun and cause the gyro to orbit you
clockwise.
5. When you reach 90 degrees, the rim will appear as a vertical
line.
6, Force the gyro to face you again [appearing as a circle].
7. The upper part of the rim will move away from you, the lower
part, toward you, until the rim is seen as a horizontal line.

[Now you have a Stanford Torus which has no need of a counter-
rotating twin.]

B. Do the same as above but with 2 counter- rotating gyros side by
side.
1. The upper rim of the counter-clock wise gyro will move toward
you, the lower rim away from you.
2. Assume that the wheel axes are connected via tension cables.
3. There will be a 'twisting' movement which will draw the gyros
closer together.
[This will also happen if compression members are used.]
[unless really, impracticably strong and inflexible bearings
are used.]-Think of the flywheel in car. How much does the
front end rise or fall when you make a 90 degree turn?

C. Now place the gyros one above the other.
1. in this case, the proximal sides [ends of a cylinder] will
either diverge from, or approach each other depending on which
is clock-wise/anti-clockwise.
2. Thus, one connection needs to be in compression, the other in
tension.

This 'may' work, but I think the torus based model [as a single
cylinder with an extra mirror at 45 degrees, and developed into a
cylinder is simpler, and *much* cheaper.
