New Thread: Kim Stanley Robinson's "Mars" Series

There's one thing I noticed about far too many SF novels about space
colonization. There's hardly any discussion of actual work just getting started and
making colonies practical much less profitable. We read about knights and
spies, but where is one novel that show a visionary businessman or woman
struggling to deal with regulations, enviromentalists, interest groups and need to show
postive cashflow in order to build a business in space, much less a colony.
There's "Man Who sold the Moon" by Robert Heinlein. There's also Victor
Koman's "Kings of the High Frontier" which go into details about how to get
capital, dealing with governments, how to market your ship or plan. there's few
other short stories but that's really it. Which is a shame, because I think that
if showing the nuts and bolt of creating space settlement in a drama was done,
a lot of people will show better support for real people who have to put up
with crap opening a way for humanity.
