The latest effort by science to answer whether there's ice on the moon has
come up empty. There's no sign of a lunar skating rink in the mysterious
polar craters -- or even a big slab of ice.

The results of the most detailed radar study to date of the moon's shadowy
poles don't mean the moon is bone-dry. But the apparent lack of large ice
tracts suggests there isn't a big supply of life-sustaining water nearby if
people ever wanted to colonize the moon.

The fact is there's nothing on the moon worth sending to earth.

The best place for materials and ices, including Nitrogen (a great Oxygen
buffer), is the asteroids and dormant comets.

You could possibly survive on the moon if you find a good crater and have a
lot imported to you either from earth or spacers.

My hunch is that there'll be a dependency on sources outside the moon for
most everything. It'll be too costly to mine it. Rather, it'll be cheaper to
just import everything and the quality of the stuff coming in will far
outstrip anything moon folks could produce.
