Island vs Model

What I'm surprised not to see is two spheres tethered together to
rotate about their combined center of gravity. If you have strong
tether materials and you're trying to maximize living space per unit
of surface area that has to be shielded, under the constraints of a
required gravity and coriolis force, then that seems as though it
has to be the best until you get to a size large enough to have a
torus of the required radius.
