natives still continues unabated especially on the elementary school level
even here in New York. College professors generally are more inclined to
apply accuracy if they were inclined to educate their students on this
widely acclaimed holiday story. Even if the story is completely true, why
waste college time on this crap anyway?
I find it more exciting to know that the first stable settlements in the
"new world" were actually Spanish and that the first European to see the
Pacific Ocean standing on this land was also Spanish. This seems more
enlightening and conducive to a healthy image of our historical base for our
kids, seems to me. But the traditionalists' stories sometimes are a good
source of humor.
