Sorry, but thinking space will be our safety boat is naive.
Space will give the humanity the opportunity to split in smaller
groups, without the tensions of religious, political and ethnic
differencies that many people don't stand well. That will happens in
the future, allowing people to live in its own small groups without
lossing conection with the whole. But that will affect a small
minority. Perhaps 100.000 people and not much more.
But thinking that 6 or 9 billion people will migrate to space is not
something I dream about at all. Perhaps even sending those people to
space could destroy the ecological balance of the planet!! And I
doubt we will ever have the resources to do so.
The ones that go will be selected with extreme care, because it will
cost money to send them away. So space will be just for an elitte.
We are too much people already. And we will have to deal with that
on here, in earth. Danger exists. The demographic collapse is a
treat particularly in Asia where people have to little space to walk
already, that could mean international tensions in the future.
Meanwhile, it is better we get the house in order before is too late.
Certainly oil will be old fashioned like horse charriots are today
in just two or three decades more. Fusion will start to appear by
then also. And conventional chemical rockets will be replaced by
scramjets.
Just be patient. Time will come.
