Thanks Mike.

I use the link to an old article about Hawking's basic reasoning for human
space colonization on the main page of my site under the category "Why go?"
and Hawking, I understand, is concerned about a virus wiping out humanity.
So, spreading out into space is a solution to this problem. I guess it's
having more than one location where humans can interact safely away from
each other.

That link doesn't provide detail as to how Hawking envisioned humans
spreading out into space. And I never knew what he thought about the how
and where-to-colonize of it all.

Thanks for pointing that out to me and everyone.

The virus warning is still a good reason to add to our list of reasons for
space settling and throw out for people to chew on and consider.

How we do it is how we do it. And doing it in space is far more
economically viable than anywhere else.. even earth.

Earth miners will go out of business. Any moon miners will pack up and
abort. Would-be Mars miners would shake their heads and go "what was I
thinking?".

The same with manufacturing. You just can't make it cheaper than space.
