One old fashioned Protestant Idea worth bringing back is the Alms
Farm where the community poor were relocated and kept. They started
coming into being before the Civil war and were only done away with
during the establishment of the modern welfare system. Those who
could work took care of those who could not as well as helped grow
the food that fed them. Some of the grown food was undoubtedly sold
to help pay for the establishment some was undoubtedly sold to
provide money to purchase things the people there needed that could
not be grown on sight but for the most part it was used to provide
for those who lived there.

I suppose once sufficient space islands are built to establish not
just communities but nations some Island Ones may be refitted to this
purpose.

They might be deemed slums but they'll be far cleaner and self
sufficient than those of today's cities. People there won't suffer
from low self esteem by being able to claim they helped earn what
they have recieved.

Of course as people and societies move into space and grow, their
lives will be more in common with the frontier communities of the
American west or Colonial Era New England than the industrial cities
of until recent.

Some will specialize in asteriod mining. Others will be into
manufacturing.

Still, I suppose where there is good fortune there will always be
those who suffer misfortune. Jesus said about the Poor, they will
always be with us. An Alms Farm system would be a good solution to
care for them.
