Sure, the disadvantages are great, and if its not possible to
reproduce viable offspring even with advanced technology, then its
not an issue. But here on Earth we have people living in shantys,
under bridges, out in the wilderness, and other places that are not
good locations to live. Some people are attracted to that. It's
conceivable some group may choose to live on the moon for religious
reasons. Or some mining company may go under and effectively strand a
population there, leaving them no choice. If they can reproduce, then
all of the sudden we have Moonlings. I doubt individuals will be able
to just pack up and go there, but there are scenarios where a
population could begin to grow there, but only if reproduction is
possible. It doesn't really matter whether we think it would be a
good idea or not. As long as its possible, it's just a matter of
when. Once there are billions living out in space, the expansion will
be uncontrollable.
