why outer space?

My opinion? Not that anyone asks for it, but here it is....simpler
systems last longer and are less prone to malfunctions. Two rotating
cylinders are an interesting idea, but it seems to me to involve a lot
of mechanics and the potential for failure. SO let us see who can come
up with the simplest and most effective idea and extrapolate from that.
Besides, we are a long way off from putting up a space colony (unless we
get our way,of course) and more than a few dollars short.

If we were to perhaps design our colony as part of an energy
processing facility, that would make it more economically viable to
have, and would greatly increase the chances of it being built. A space
colony designed to produce and maintain a solar collection facility
could be sponsored by utility companies and serve our purposes also,
which is to get our butts off this rock and into the new frontier. (Not
that I have anything against Earth, I like it here too,) It would also
benefit Earth's ecology, and so on and so forth.

How simple can we get it, folks?
