An SPS might be more beneficial. It would supply energy to the surface to be used in any way needed.

Of course, an advantage of magnifying sunlight is growing plants without the need for artificial lighting. It is easy to forget that lights are fabricated items. The fewer manufactured items that are required, the more sustainable a colony may be.
