Emergency Entrance to Space Station

In my next story in the fictional space colony novel I've been
getting help from this list on,a young priest who has just been
consecrated the first interstellar bishop in spite of the fact that
he suffers from claustrophobia has been gotten drunk by a tough new
friend who is also being evacuated to the first space colony in
order to get him on the shuttle.Just as he is waking up aboard the
shuttle to the first hangover of his rather chaste young life, the
shuttle gets the word that there is an emergency on the
international space station and one of the astronauts, who is
Catholic, is seriously injured and would like to receive the last
rites. The entry to the space station has been damaged, and Father --
for only Father can administer the last rites -- has to enter the
station via some small conduit. In doing this, he will overcome his
claustrophobia, and do what fiction has to do, resolve itself in
some dramatic fashion. (I plan to have him think of his anaerobic
ancestors -- for the Catholic church "supports" evolution, not like
Protestants, one of the things I hope this story will show -- and
psych himself into not panicking about air and hence suggest that
mankind will begin a new evolutionary journey or branch in which
oxygen will somehow become less important physiologically; I think I
might be the first person to make this suggestion, and I find it
kind of exciting if it were emerging in a work of fiction, and I
wonder if anyone will ever notice it? Here's my justification: the
reverse thing happened, so why couldn't it go back the other way?
This assumes a connection between anaerobic life and aerobic life,
but what the hell. )(The Church has nothing to say about this hair
brained idea.) There are therapists who support a "one-time event"
cure for claustrophobia, anyway, so that's authentic.

Anyway I need some new help: can anyone give me two or three
sentences that would plausibly explain the damage to the space
station, and plausibly describe the conduit through which Father
will have to enter?

I looked at several NASA sites, but they are full of dead links, or
videos it don't play -- that could be my system -- and I'm afraid
I'm going to make some kind of major mistake in interpreting what
I'm looking at. So I was hoping to find an expert at this site who
could say, oh,yeah this is easy, there are two entrances, the main
and the emergency, and XXX jammed up [electrical? explosion?
computer problem?] and now the only way to get in is through the XXX
(computer cable router? garbage tube? what?].

By the way, I got the idea of Father doing some brave thing to
overcome his fear of tight spaces from a list contributor who
suggested that I have him jump from one place to another over some
broad space or something scary, but I changed it to a more direct
connection to claustrophobia a tight space, but the idea was
brilliant simply brilliant, and thank you. You guys are great.
