Hemoglobin contains iron. That's what gives red blood cells their
colour. The water in every cell is a polarized molecule; most
likely, these extremely strong magnetic fields are polarizing the
water molecules in the body to behave as a single large magnet, with
a field opposing the external magnetic field.
