The maths have repeatedly shown that steel reinforced concrete could build
much larger objects with exceptionally high msafety margins. Kevlar *could*
do the same job, but I would recomend agaist it due to the lack of large
scale experience we have of using the stuff to build bridges. We don't know
how to check it's structural integrity after twenty or fifty years, nor do
we know enough about its failure modes outside aircraft.
