An interesting lesson to remember. If something appears hidden, then it seems to inspire people to assume the worst possible motive. In this case I am sure that you were not hidding anything. You just didn't publize to the local yokels. If you had spent all your money on a huge sign proclaiming that you were doing advanced regenerative studies on plant growth for space science they would have decided that you were a crackpot group and left you alone.
One of the only valid reasons for Biosphere2 is regenerative environments. It is an interesting facility to visit. I would recommend it if you happen to be near that area of AZ. http://www.bio2.edu/

Let's cut out the hemp talk. It seriously diminishes the credibility of the
project. You asked if anyone was doing work on growing plants in space. The
answer is yes. Me. We were operating a regenerative greenhouse to determine
what was the minimal system needed to grow food, sustain air, and still be
reasonably simple to operate.
A rumor developed among local folks that this was actually a pot farm. Our
experiments were ruined several times by break-ins and vandalism. One person
was actually arrested when he was caught stealing basil! The problems became
too expensive to handle and the facility was closed.
Don't even hint at any relationship between this work and drugs, it attracts
trouble.
