The current net worth of just the U.S. is quite far into the ten's of
trillions, and only about 800 billion is in printed cash, perhaps a great
deal less. The vast majority of transactions in this country, and indeed the
world, are conducted electronically already, and have been for some time.
All substantiative transactions certainly are. Cash transactions are
trivial in comparison, and provide anonymity only to those who are willing
to forgoe many of the convenieces of civilization - Ted Kaczynski, for
instance.
